There are many factors to applying the perfect makeup for TV appearances, but the 3 main factors are: Basic makeup, Corrective makeup and Character makeup.
Basic makeup is designed to compensate for undesirable changes in appearance introduced by the TV process. TV and film can to some degree introduce or enhance undesirable attributes to skin tones and features, like for example oily skin.
Corrective makeup is used to enhance positive attributes and downplay skin and feature flaws.
Character makeup is used to introduce major changes in appearance. To some extend this is more used for film, but character makeup can also be used for TV commercials and photo shoots if for example a major change to the nose, lips, eyes or cheekbones is desired.
